Turners

Who is Garland Turner?  Garland is a coach and friend to a lot of people at Georgetown Youth Girls Softball Association. He is a dad with two girls, Kati and Cori Turner and husband to Becky Turner. He can be found at the fields usually 5 days a week working with his daughters or someone else’s daughters’ trying to teach them the game of fast pitch softball, mainly working on pitching. I have seen him working with groups of six at a time on a regular basis teaching the fundamentals and mechanics of delivering an underhand fastball.  He has never denied helping anyone or a chance at instruction. All that was required was that you ask and have the want to learn. He has been an asset to our program and always willing to help when needed. He has been involved with GYGSA for 6 years and has made a large impact on the young ladies he has coached and worked with thru the spring and fall seasons. GYGSA has been missing Garland as it is parents like him that make a program work.  “He has always been extremely generous with his time working with young girls to advance their ability.  He does this just for the gratification of being able to help them.  I know because my daughter was one that Garland took the time to work with and helped make her dreams come true.  She now plays select ball and high school ball, all because Garland was dedicated enough to help her along.” Says Melony Leach
Why does Garland need your help?  Garland Turner came down with the flu (not H1n1) a couple of weeks ago that progressed into pneumonia and led to ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) that resulted in him being placed in ICU at Georgetown hospital on February 20. ARDS is often fatal and Garland is still in critical condition but is stable at this time. He has improved over the past few days but improvement is measured on a small scale and he will remain hospitalized for quite some time. Recovery time at this stage in the game is merely a guessing game. Dr’s have suspected 7-8 weeks once he is out of ICU. Garland and his family have had the misfortune of the down turn in the economy like many others have had. Garland is employed but has not worked with his present employer long enough to accumulate any sick leave or vacation time to cash in. Along with some mounting medical bills and living expenses that don’t go away, the Turner family could really use everyone’s help. He has always helped the girls to throw strikes, now we need you to throw a strike for Garland . A cash donation of any size would help out tremendously. GYGSA will have collection jars at the concession stand for all home games throughout the spring season. You can also throw a strike at:

Very important:
on memo line of check please write “ Garland Turner” You can also go to the bank to make a cash donation.  Just make the teller aware that the deposit is for “ Garland Turner”
The Turner family ( Garland , Becky, Katy 13, and Cori 9) would like to thank you in advance for anything you could do to help in these hard economic times and asks that at the very least you keep Garland in your thoughts and prayers.
I know Garland will get fussy with the GYGSA board for doing this because he is a very proud man but we will be happy to argue with him at a later date and time… Gods speed Garland .

Sincerely,
Doug Honea
